The festive spirit has officially arrived at The Orange Tree Day Nursery in Derby, and our little ones are already hard at work bringing a very special holiday tradition to life! This year, our children are stepping into Christmas with Speech and Language UK’s Sign Up to Sing campaign, a sponsored, signing singalong that proves using your voice isn’t the only way to speak up!
Our nursery superstars are hard at work learning to sign and sing everyone’s absolute favourite festive song, Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer, using Makaton!
We were so blown away by their enthusiasm during their very first rehearsal that we just had to share. Look how amazingly they did for their first practice! Their little hands were moving, their faces were glowing with confidence and their excitement was truly infectious.
Why Makaton & Why This Charity Matters
Right now, a record two million children in the UK are struggling with talking and understanding words. That is 1 in 5 children who, too often, miss out on the vital support they need to thrive, make friends, and build self-confidence.
That’s where Makaton and Speech and Language UK step in!
Makaton is a unique communication programme that uses speech, signs, and symbols together to help people communicate, connect, and express themselves. For some people, Makaton is an essential part of everyday communication. For others, it supports understanding, builds confidence, and creates more opportunities to connect with the world around them.
There is no single way to communicate, and that is what makes Makaton so powerful. It creates communication that truly works for everyone! And the best part about taking on this challenge? There is no musical talent required just big smiles and lots of heart!
Our £200 Fundraising Target
Our nursery team and children have set a heartwarming goal: we are aiming to raise £200 to support Speech and Language UK in providing life-changing tools and guidance for families and schools across the country.
